The Handlers

Corporal
Tim Jones
serves as the department's K-9 Unit Supervisor
as well as a supervisor on the Patrol Division's Team 3. Cpl. Jones
holds collateral duties as a member of the Emergency Services Unit.
Cpl. Jones
began his career in law enforcement as a Police Reserve Officer with the
Summerville Police Department in 1997. He began his full time
career in 1999. Corporal Jones’s K-9 partner "RONIN" is a male Belgian
Malinois that was imported from Belgium in 2002 and is trained a
"Dual-Purpose" canine. Corporal Jones joined the K-9 Unit after
successfully completing a six-week joint training program with
his K-9 partner. The two were trained with the assistance of the
Berkeley County Sheriff's Department K-9 Division and became a
Team in February 2002. Corporal Jones and his K-9 partner
"RONIN" are certified by the National Narcotic Detector Dog
Association (N. N. D. D. A.). K-9 RONIN has twice received the
title of "Utility Dog" from NAPWDA. K-9 "RONIN"
has assisted in seizing well over a million
dollars in US Currency, illegal narcotics, and property.
Corporal Jones is a certified
S. C. U. B. A. Rescue Diver and is
certified in numerous areas to include; Criminal Interdiction,
areas of Traffic and D. U. I. Enforcement, Hostage Rescue, and
High Risk Warrant Service. Corporal Jones is also a Certified
Firearms and TASER Instructor for our department. Corporal Jones
is a proud member of the National Criminal Enforcement
Association, the Police Benevolent Association, and the
Fraternal Order of Police. When "RONIN" is not working he lives
at home with Corporal Jones, his wife Paige and their two
daughters. RONIN spends his off duty time swimming, and playing
with the family and his other Belgian Malinois pet named,
"DARGO."

Corporal Chip Holmes began
his law enforcement career as a Police Reserve Officer with
the Summerville Police Department in 1996 while he was still
serving in the United States Army. Cpl. Holmes is a combat
veteran of the Desert Storm War and obtained the rank of
Sergeant First Class before retiring from the US Army 2001. The
Summerville Police Department hired Holmes soon after. Cpl.
Holmes is presently assigned to the Dorchester County School
District 2 as a School Resource Officer. Cpl. Holmes is
certified in Advanced DUI Detection, Speed Measurement Devices
and Advanced Criminal Patrol Procedures. Cpl. Holmes's K-9
partner, "PANTO," is a Dual Purpose male German Shepherd that
was imported to the United States from the Czech Republic.
Cpl.
Holmes and PANTO have worked together as a team since February
2004, when the two graduated from a rigorous 8 week training
Police K-9 school in North Carolina. PANTO is trained in the
areas of Narcotic Detection, Tracking, Area Searching, Article
Recovery, Building Searches, Handler Protection, and Obedience.
Both are also certified in Narcotics Detection by the American
Working Dog Association. PANTO holds the title of "Utility
Dog" from NAPWDA. Since Holmes and his partner began as
a team they have racked up numerous narcotic related arrests,
and the capture of several wanted fugitives. |
Patrolman First Class
Trey Hardy began his police career at the Summerville Police Department in 2001 when he became a Police
Reserve Officer. In early 2002,
PFC. Hardy was hired on as a full-time police officer and is
currently assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division on Team 4. PFC.
Hardy's K-9 partner "REX,"
is a male German
Shepherd that was imported to the
United States from the
Slovak Republic in 2006. PFC. Hardy joined the K-9 Unit
in August 2006 after successfully completing an extensive four
week Police K-9 school in North Carolina. K-9 "REX"
an all black in color 'Dual Purpose' patrol canine which
is certified in Narcotics Detection, Obedience, Area Search, Article
Recovery, Building Searches, Criminal Apprehension, Tracking and
Handler Protection. PFC. Hardy has received training in Advanced
Criminal Patrol Procedures, Street Drug Recognition, and Current
RAVE Drug Trends. PFC. Hardy is a proud member of the National
Criminal Enforcement Association and the Fraternal Order of Police
Tri-County Lodge 3.

Patrolman First Class Mike Files
is originally from San Diego, California. He
served in the United States Marine Corps from 1988 until 1992.
During his military service, he found himself a home in South
Carolina. While in the Marine Corps he began his law enforcement
career with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy
under the watchful eye of Sheriff Ray Isgett. Files became a full
time, certified deputy after honorably completing his enlistment
with the United States Marine Corps in 1992. While with the
Sheriff’s Office Files was assigned to the Patrol Division,
Charleston DEA Task Force, Selective Enforcement Team, Narcotics and
the K-9 Unit. In early 2005 Files resigned from the Berkeley County
Sheriff’s as a Sgt and supervisor of the K-9 Unit to seek out a new
endeavor with Blackwater K-9. While with Blackwater, Files served in
various areas of Iraq as an Explosive Detection Dog Handler on a
High Threat Personal Protection Detail. Files ended his tour
overseas as the Central Region Program Manager for Blackwater K-9 in
Iraq in 2006; shortly after Files joined the ranks of the
Summerville Police Department and serves in the Patrol Division on
Team 1 along with his K-9 partner Ryk.
K-9 Ryk is a male German Shepherd / Belgium
Malinois imported from Belgium. K-9 Ryk is a dual purpose patrol dog
trained in, Tracking, Criminal Apprehension, Handler Protection,
Evidence Recovery, Narcotics Detection, Building and Area Search.
PFC. Files and K-9 Ryk are certified in these areas through the
National Police Work Dog Association and the National Narcotic
Detector Dog Association. In their off time Files and K-9 Ryk enjoy
training for Iron Dog Competitions and relaxing at home.
