SUMMARY FOR TRAFFIC COLLISIONS IN 2004

There were 1,629 Traffic Collisions investigated by the Summerville Police Department in the year 2004, an increase of 234 collisions from last year. There were NO fatalities, and 26 driving under the influence arrests were made during these investigations. Although there was an increase in occupants (up by 688, a 22% increase) there was a drop in injuries by 3, and a drop in injured transported (down by 50, a 16% decrease).

38 operating uninsured vehicles

206 collisions occurred on wet roads

143 occurred on Sunday

362 occurred on US 17A  (243 north, 119 south)

419 occurred on private property

121 occurred on Trolley Rd

113 occurred on Berlin G. Myers PKWY (18 @ 3rd St)

36 occurred on Carolina Ave (17 on E. Carolina)

101 occurred on Bacons Bridge Rd (38 around Lee St)

34 occurred on Cedar St

39 occurred on Central Ave

25 occurred on Dorchester Rd

21 occurred on Midland Pkwy

18 occurred on Ladson Rd

9 occurred on Gahagan Rd

24 occurred on Richardson Ave

600 occurred due to following too close/ inattention

281 occurred due to failure to yield right-of-way

243 occurred due to improper backing

86 occurred due to disregarding a traffic signal or stop sign

59 occurred due to improper lane change/usage

25 occurred due to improper turn

62 occurred due to too fast for conditions

23 occurred due to improper passing
