SUMMARY FOR TRAFFIC COLLISIONS IN JANUARY 2010

  There were 129 Traffic Collisions (involving 250 units) investigated by the Summerville Police Department in January.  1 was worked for state patrol out of our jurisdiction. 1 involved a commercial vehicle, 0 a bicycle, 1 a motorcycle, 0 a moped, 0 an ATV, 0 a golf cart, and 3 a pedestrian. There were no fatalities and 4 driving under the influence arrests were made during these investigations.             

 Statistical Information:

 

 

Ø      $399,800 in property damage

Ø      28 injuries out of 361 occupants; of those injured 27 were transported to the hospital

Ø        4 vehicles confirmed with no insurance (7 were unknown)

Ø        7 hit and run collisions

Ø      42 collisions occurred in intersections (18 were driveways)

Ø      24 collisions occurred on wet roads

Ø      13 occurred on Monday

Ø      15 occurred on Tuesday

Ø      13 occurred on Wednesday

Ø      15 occurred on Thursday

Ø      38 occurred on Friday

Ø      17 occurred on Saturday

Ø      16 occurred on Sunday

Ø      14 occurred on US 17A N (6 North of 9th st)

Ø        9 occurred on US 17A S

Ø      14 occurred on US 78

Ø      16 occurred on Trolley Rd

Ø        9 occurred on Bacons Bridge Rd (1 around Lee ST, 6 around BGM PKWY)

Ø        9 occurred on Berlin G Myers Pkwy (none at 3rd St)

Ø        9 occurred on Dorchester Rd

Ø      25 occurred on Private Property

Ø      29 occurred due to Failure to Yield Right of Way

Ø      62 occurred due to Following Too Close/Inattention

Ø      10 occurred due to Improper Backing

Ø      55 occurred due to Disregarding a Traffic Signal or Stop Sign 

Ø           Citations were issued in 65 of the 129 collisions investigated
