Functions & Duties

Our department currently has five working police K-9 teams. All five of these teams are trained and certified as "Dual-Purpose" working canines. We take great pride in all our dogs. They are well trained, sociable and respond to the handler's every command. Our teams are a wonderful public relations tool by providing demonstrations at our schools, daycare centers, hospitals, civic organizations, churches and other public functions.

Four of our department's dual-purpose canine teams are currently assigned to the Patrol Division. Corporal Tim Jones and his male Belgian Malinois, "RONIN," Pfc. Trey Hardy and his German Shepherd, "Rex", are currently assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division.  PFC. Chip Holmes with his German Shepherd partner "PANTO"  are assigned to the School Resource Officers Program and are responsible for all of the District 2 Schools that are in the Town of Summerville; to include Summerville High School, the highest populated high school in South Carolina.  K-9 PANTO is currently our only German Shepherd that is in service.
