The Criminal
Investigations Division of the Summerville Police
Department is comprised of six case
investigators.
They are on-call and available 24 hours a
day, each serving a one-week rotation.
This division, in concert with the
patrol division, is assigned follow-up investigations by the Captain
to ensure appropriate and speedy disposition of all
cases. Our highly trained investigators have received
advanced training in fields including, but not limited to, homicide
and unattended death investigation, criminal sexual conduct,
burglary, robbery, white collar crime, juvenile cases, auto theft, crimes against
persons and other property crimes.
This division conducts interviews with suspects, victims and
witnesses to crimes and is responsible for preparing affidavits for
arrest and
search warrants. Investigators, together with the Emergency Services
Unit, coordinate and execute all search warrants and high risk
arrest warrants. In sexual assaults, domestic violence cases, child
and elder abuse cases, investigators work closely with victims and
their families in conjunction with the department victim's advocate in
order to provide appropriate referrals and access to community
services.
Ultimately, investigators prepare all General Sessions cases for
trial and collaborate with the Solicitor's Office to present
testimony and evidence in a professional, lawful manner to ensure
proper identification of perpetrators and successful prosecution of
all violators.
