SUMMARY FOR TRAFFIC COLLISIONS IN  2007

   There were 1,897 Traffic Collisions investigated by the Summerville Police Department in the year 2007, an increase of 227 collisions from 2005. Accounting for the decrease of Private Property collisions (down 96 from 2006) we had an increase in roadway collisions by 323. There was only 1 fatality, (5 for 2006) and 29 driving under the influence arrests were made during these investigations.

Ø      414 injuries out of 4,851 occupants; 328 transported

Ø      $5,552,800 in property damage

Ø        18 operating uninsured vehicles

Ø      339 collisions occurred in intersections

Ø      272 collisions occurred on wet roads

Ø      263 occurred on Monday

Ø      270 occurred on Tuesday

Ø      285 occurred on Wednesday

Ø      309 occurred on Thursday

Ø      378 occurred on Friday

Ø      249 occurred on Saturday

Ø      143 occurred on Sunday

Ø      381 occurred on US 17A  (261 north, 120 south)

Ø      442 occurred on private property

Ø      140 occurred on Trolley Rd

Ø      129 occurred on US 78

Ø      144 occurred on Berlin G. Myers PKWY ( 51 near Bacons Bridge)

Ø        20 occurred on Carolina Ave (11 on E. Carolina)

Ø      105 occurred on Bacons Bridge Rd (29 around Lee St, 69 near BGM PKY)

Ø        49 occurred on Cedar St

Ø        71 occurred on Central Ave

Ø        60 occurred on Dorchester Rd

Ø        18 occurred on Midland Pkwy

Ø        50 occurred on Ladson Rd

Ø        14 occurred on Gahagan Rd

Ø        24 occurred on Richardson Ave (1 on the East side)

Ø      880 occurred due to following too close/ inattention

Ø      343 occurred due to failure to yield right-of-way

Ø      272 occurred due to improper backing

Ø        68 occurred due to disregarding a traffic signal or stop sign

Ø        76 occurred due to improper lane change/usage

Ø        36 occurred due to improper turn

Ø        39 occurred due to too fast for conditions

Ø        19 occurred due to improper passing

Ø            Citations were issued in 908 of the 1,897 collisions investigated
