SUMMARY FOR TRAFFIC COLLISIONS IN 2006

There were 1,670 Traffic Collisions investigated by the Summerville Police Department in the year 2006, an increase of 47 collisions from 2005. Accounting for an increase of Private Property collisions (up 83 from 2005) we actually had a decrease in roadway collisions by 36. There were 4 fatalities, and 33 driving under the influence arrests were made during these investigations. Occupants stayed the same (up by one) but there was a decrease in injuries by 34, and a decrease in injured transported (down by 26).

Ø      369 injuries out of 3,904 occupants; 297 transported

Ø      $4,222,250 in property damage

Ø        19 operating uninsured vehicles

Ø      281 collisions occurred in intersections

Ø      212 collisions occurred on wet roads

Ø      234 occurred on Monday

Ø      246 occurred on Tuesday

Ø      221 occurred on Wednesday

Ø      248 occurred on Thursday

Ø      336 occurred on Friday

Ø      223 occurred on Saturday

Ø      162 occurred on Sunday

Ø      313 occurred on US 17A  (202 north, 111 south)

Ø      538 occurred on private property

Ø      107 occurred on Trolley Rd

Ø      117 occurred on US 78

Ø        90 occurred on Berlin G. Myers PKWY ( 7 @ 3rd St)

Ø        24 occurred on Carolina Ave (11 on E. Carolina)

Ø        87 occurred on Bacons Bridge Rd (24 around Lee St)

Ø        40 occurred on Cedar St

Ø        41 occurred on Central Ave

Ø        47 occurred on Dorchester Rd

Ø        18 occurred on Midland Pkwy

Ø        29 occurred on Ladson Rd

Ø          9 occurred on Gahagan Rd

Ø        18 occurred on Richardson Ave

Ø      688 occurred due to following too close/ inattention

Ø      260 occurred due to failure to yield right-of-way

Ø      298 occurred due to improper backing

Ø        65 occurred due to disregarding a traffic signal or stop sign

Ø        55 occurred due to improper lane change/usage

Ø        24 occurred due to improper turn

Ø        57 occurred due to too fast for conditions

Ø        14 occurred due to improper passing

Ø            Citations were issued in 548 of the 1,670 collisions investigated
